About Us

At Buy Fresh Buy Local Chesapeake (BFBLC), we are on a mission to elevate Chesapeake Bay conservation by fostering a deeper connection between our local communities and the environment. Since 2010, we have proudly operated under the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), serving as the franchise holder for the local chapter of the national Buy Fresh Buy Local program.

Our overarching goal is simple yet powerful: to curate a local food guide and host engaging events that spotlight the incredible local food products and businesses within Maryland and the District of Columbia. By doing so, we educate consumers, create a direct link between producers and consumers, and provide crucial support to our local economy.

Why does our mission matter? Food production is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and pollution entering the Chesapeake Bay, endangering the health of our waters and the planet. By raising awareness about these connections, we empower individuals to make informed choices that benefit both the environment and the local economy.

We are not just about food; we are about creating positive change. BFBLC serves as an intersectional platform where we address environmental challenges, promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and advocate for clean water, climate mitigation, and social justice. Our goal is to unite diverse voices in our community, fostering collaboration and driving policy changes that align with our vision for a thriving Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Join us on this journey to support clean water, sustainable agriculture, and thriving communities. Together, we can make a difference, protect our precious Chesapeake Bay, and ensure a brighter future for generations to come.
